Every farm registered once, and never enrolled twice

Sequestra registers each farm as a polygon on the day it is onboarded and anchors the record on a blockchain. When the same land is proposed again, for a state programme, a nature-based-solutions project or another registry, the overlap shows and the earlier baseline stays the reference. The method is published for anyone to adopt.

Switch the deed, the CAR and the informed area on and off to see where they disagree. The ground is real imagery; the farm, the dates and the hash are sample data.

How the method works

Four steps, the same for every farm

Registration happens once, on the day a farm joins. Everything after that is a check against the record it left behind.

01

Register the polygon

On the day a farm is onboarded, its plot outline is registered with its tenure, land-use history, imagery and above-ground biomass. The polygon gets a registry ID that stays with the land.

02

Hash and anchor the record

The record is hashed and the hash is anchored on a blockchain. From that moment the baseline can be verified by anyone and changed by no one.

03

Check every new enrolment for overlap

Each new polygon is compared with the registered ones before it is enrolled. Where it covers land already registered, the check says so and the earlier baseline stays the reference.

04

Publish the method so others can adopt it

The registration format, the hashing and the overlap check are published. Any platform, programme or registry can run the same method on its own farms.

Why one layer

One registry the whole chain can rely on

Project developers, EU importers and retailers doing insetting, programme owners and registries all ask the same question of a farm: is this land already counted? The registry answers it once, for everyone.

No double enrolment

A farm proposed for a state programme, bought for a nature-based-solutions project or put forward by another registry shows up as already enrolled. The same hectare cannot count twice.

A baseline that cannot drift

The record anchored at onboarding is the one every later claim is measured against. Nobody can move the starting line after the fact, including us.

Portable across programmes and registries

The polygon’s identity travels with the land. A programme owner or registry can check a submission against it without running its farms on Sequestra.

Open for the industry to copy

The method is published for any platform, programme or registry to adopt. One layer the industry can share, not a lock-in to Carbon Bridge.
