Every plot behind a statement must be geolocated
The EU Deforestation Regulation applies from 30 December 2026 to large and medium operators, and from 30 June 2027 to micro and small ones. Only the first operator placing a product on the EU market files a due diligence statement, but that statement must geolocate every plot it sources from.
Credit quality depends on evidence
A 2024 synthesis of 14 studies covering 2,346 projects found that 25% of avoided-deforestation credits were real reductions (Probst et al., Nature Communications 15:9562).

EU importers get farm-level evidence for Brazil-origin supply: plot outlines, CAR and land-tenure checks, deforestation checks since the cut-off, IBAMA embargoes and the due diligence statement. Cooperatives and exporters onboard their member farms once and serve every EU buyer.
A dated baseline, then monitoring
Every onboarded farm comes with its plot, tenure, land-use history, stored satellite imagery and a biomass snapshot. From then on, it is monitored from space.
Farms into programmes
The same small and medium farms can be aggregated into restoration, agroforestry and native-vegetation programmes, which only satellite data can monitor at that scale.
